Silicone Bracelets

Take a peek at the wrists of children, young adults, athletes, and anyone else, and you may see one or more silicone bracelets being worn. While originally little more than a fad, the much publicized fight against cancer by legendary cyclist Lance Armstrong led to the creation of silicone awareness bracelets. Originally, the yellow custom silicone bracelets were introduced in 2004 as a means to raise funds for his foundation which benefited cancer research. You could buy silicone bracelets for one dollar and thus support the cause. Yet soon it became obvious that this cancer fighting movement spawned a whole new movement that associated silicone bracelets with a host of different causes, and soon wholesale silicone bracelets were available that took advantage of this newfound fashion trend.

It is not uncommon to see two, five or more custom silicone bracelet bands on a wearer’s wrist, where they might be supporting any number of charities and causes, or are simply an expression of the wearer’s fashion sense. A silicone rubber awareness bracelet may carry the blue and red colors hat signify the fight against epilepsy or the green that speaks of Taiwanese independence, the pro-life movement, or the rainforest preservation effort. Silicone bracelets that are white may indicate that the wearer is mindful of bullying, or will remain sexually pure until marriage, whereas red silicone bracelets are associated with Christianity, giving blood, or a number of other causes.

At this point in time, silicone bracelets have lost much of their meanings and instead are becoming a fashion statement where colors are mixed and matched rather than worn for the effect of spreading awareness with a custom silicone bracelet.

Of course, a silicone awareness bracelet may also display saying, symbols, or other ornamentation that may be embossed or printed onto the silicone bracelet. It is important to understand that while silicone wrist bracelets are fashionable and quite popular especially with children, these cheap custom silicone bracelets do not rip easily and thus may cause fractured wrists if they become caught on something and cannot be stripped off in time. Similarly, custom silicone bracelets fundraising efforts are gradually declining, especially after Lance Armstrong himself blasted EBay and other outlets for selling cheap silicone bracelets that were knockoffs of the custom made silicone bracelet that was used to support his cause. It is questionable for how much longer this awareness bracelet will continue its popularity or if indeed it will once again become a fad until at some point in the future it is once again revived.
