Nipple Rings

Nipple rings are said to date back to the 14th century when they were worn by the upper class ladies of society. It was said that they wore deep v-neck dresses that often exposed their nipples and adorn nipple rings as decoration. Today nipple rings are worn for enhanced sexual pleasure more than anything else. Nipple rings are generally placed horizontally at the back of the nipple and against the areola. The size of the bar is generally gauged by the size of the nipple. The larger the nipple the large the bar. Thin bars are not recommended as they can be easily pulled through and tear the nipple.

There are many types of nipple rings available both in pierced and non-pierced designs. The most common are the straight barbell and the captive ring with a dangling charm. Non-pierced designs are like clamps that squeeze around the nipple. They are also available with or without dangling charms. Having a nipple ring is said to enhance sexual pleasure and make nipple taunt and sensitive to the slightest touch. Nipple rings keep nipple protruding so that they will feel the softest touch or breeze and in no time reach a full arousal.

Like any open wound, nipple rings requires special care for up to six months after the piercing. It is best not touch your piercing unnecessarily or let anyone else touch it until it is fully healed. The nipple ring and surrounding area should be cleaned once daily with an antibacterial soap and should be soaked in a saline solution once a day as well. If you notice any redness, swelling, or discharge you should contact your physician or piercer immediately. These are most likely signs of an infection. It is recommended to avoid being in water that can harbor bacteria. A plain bra should be worn to reduce the chance of the nipple rings getting caught and it should be worn at night to protect the piercing while you sleep. Using diluted lavender oil and taking vitamins C and zinc will help speed up the healing process.

Nipple rings need special consideration over other body piercings in cases of pierced women breastfeeding or intending too. Bacterial infection can spread to the milk ducts and become difficult to treat. It is recommended that only a curved barbell is worn and that it be removed before feeding and replaced soon afterwards.
